
The aim of this game is to check the prejudice students or teachers may hold about working in STEAM; the way students/or teachers see/feel or even experience problems in STEAM fields due to their gender and most important have a discussion about these issues.
TYPE OF THE ACTIVITY
Game and Discussion;
DURATION:
For a group of 10 people – not more than 50 min;
TEACHING AID:
A box, pencils or pens, and small pieces of paper to write on;
A Presentation with questions for discussion (added additionally) –> The Presentation (pdf).
TEACHING PRACTICE (STEP BY STEP):
FIRST PART:
- Prepare small papers and divide them to students;
- Give instructions to students to write down the problems that any person: a man or a woman working in the STEAM field could meet. One paper – one problem. Let them write as many papers as they want;
- All the papers should go to the box;
SECOND PART:
- Give instructions to the students to draw out a piece of paper from the box;
- Encourage students to elaborate on the solutions to the problems they drew;
THIRD PART:
- Held a discussion. Questions for the discussion are added in an additional file. One of the most important questions: which gender do you think would face this problem more and why?
